My life long Lovestory with

Breakfast in Bed

The song written by Eddie Hinton and Donnie Fritts who were Muscle Shoals songwriters and written for Dusty.

Hidden in this song is an “Easter egg” 🙂 The line “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” has been brought back in this song. And as you may know this is the title to a number one hit for her in the UK.

A year later it was  recorded and popularized by Baby Washington.

Dusty’s version was also featured in the 2014 movie Godzilla.

I do think it really was a missed opportunity to not release Breakfast in Bed as a single in the UK. It would have been a great follow up to Son of a Preacher Man.

Just one Smile

Just One Smile” was written by Randy Newman in 1960. An recorded by Gene Pitney in 1966 his album Looking Through the Eyes of Love.

It became a Top 10 hit “Just One Smile” was Pitney’s seventh consecutive Top Ten hit single in the UK.

Well, what can I say Dusty brings this one home. From the many version the song has, it is Dusty’s version that brings out all the love and heartache in a love affair.

  1. Great work and wonderful videos of the songs.
I knew her. I was with them IN MEMPHIS at the Rivermont hotel when she was there with Jerry and Tom Dowd And Arif DOING TRACKS. I was there for the party when food ended up all over the room and floor, all started by Dusty.
I was on the fake plastic black leather-like couch in the dark…head resting against the console the board was resting on… mind blown to hell and back hearing her SING LIKE GOD WAS IN HER THROAT to the track Windmills Of Your Mind with NOTHING but bass, click track and castanets and her ethereal disembodied voice… it was an out of body experience. All in that little s—hole American Studios.
SHE DIDN’T SING IN MEMPHIS??? WELL I WAS THERE FOR THAT
AND THAT WAS TRULY ONE OF THE 3 GREATEST THINGS I GOT TO DO IN MY MUSICAL LIFE.
And I have lived a while and done a lot.
Thanks for this. Dusty was and still is the greatest white singer out of anywhere from any time.

    1. She was standing with Jerry in the parking lot
Her eyes were green and the pavement was hot
She turned around and looked at me
      I felt my body freeze
Who is this girl with harlow hair
Sequins in the morning…she didn’t care
Dressed in black head to toe
      Omg…what a show

  2. Do you have a link for the rest of the “Jerry Wexler talking to Alan Smith” article? Thank you.
